Huge Launch Day Numbers for MW3
Today marks day three since Modern Warfare 3 has launched and Rottengamers are wondering how many copies were sold in the first 24 hours. I did a little researching and found some unofficial numbers but lots of chatter and so far the general consensus or word on the street is that Battlefield is getting its proverbial tookus spanked in this end of the year fisticuff. A war of words that spawned between publishers Electronic Arts and Activision at times reminded us of the trash talk in major sports hyping up eager gamers everywhere. Hype that led to Battlefield 3 selling 5 million copies in one week which is very impressive and nothing to sneeze at very few video games have reached that plateau and for that alone EA and Dice should be proud. Unofficially bloggers and lesser known publications are stating that Modern Warfare 3 had almost doubled in one day the number of battlefield 3 copies sold in one week. However, the official numbers released today means that MW3 has surpassed the 6 million unit benchmark set by analyst selling a whooping 6.5 million units on day one. MW3 raked in $400 million dollars in North America and the UK alone beating out the launch day sales of MW2 by $90 million, and Black Ops by $40 million. The 6.5 million units sold gives MW3 the title of biggest entertainment launch EVER remember Black Ops sold 5.6 million copies in one day and today is the best selling game ever. That being said the ingredients for Modern Warfare 3 to win the battle for top selling game is already there.
